Friday Roundup (#5)

It’s Friday, so I have a roundup of interesting stuff I’ve come across this week.

Movie: NOPE (2022). Jordan Peele’s third feature follows a family of horse-wranglers near Hollywood who have a UFO problem. I really don’t want to give too much away, because the twist in the film is both satisfying and horrifying. This is probably the scariest movie I’ve seen in a long time, so kudos to Peele for that. The film was beautiful, had fantastic CGI (which is not something I ever, ever say), and a chilling concept. It did, however, leave me wanting a bit more of the characters. All in all, though, it’s a solid film, and a new classic of the UFO genre.

Youtube: Rick Beato – What Made Bach Great? This week I’ve been looking for videos to have up in the background that are interesting but also generative, creative, and undistressing. I’ve turned to music and music theory. I’ve enjoyed music theory since high school, even though I’ve always been an amateur at it. This week I stumbled upon Rick Beato’s Youtube channel, and it’s been really great. He breaks down great composers, bands, and songs and shows what’s going on “under the hood” musically. I highly recommend checking it out even if you don’t have any basis for music theory. His enthusiasm is contagious.

Recipe: Banana pancakes. No, the above photo is not a crass innuendo. Instead, it’s the totality of ingredients necessary to make banana pancakes. Get a ripe banana (the riper the better), and mush it up in a bowl. Stir in eggs. That’s your pancake batter. Cook in a pan, flip, cook some more. That’s it. I’ve been adding walnuts and blueberries in the pan before your flip, and it’s been delicious.

That’s it for this week!
