Friday Roundup (#2)

It’s Friday, and I’ve got a roundup.

Movie: RRR (2022) Directed by S.S. Rajamouli, RRR may be my favorite movie so far this year, narrowly beating out EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE. In fact, the two films have a lot of similarities, including expansive, epic storylines and highly stylized action choreography. RRR, though, is just so cool and exceedingly creative for three straight hours. Every fight scene is more intense, sleeker, and more interesting than the last. There is not a minute of wasted footage here. It’s streaming on Netflix right now, so do me a favor: stop reading this and go watch it.

Podcast: Twitch of the Death Nerve. I am late to the game on this one. Twitch of the Death Nerve, hosted by Charles Perks, Jon Dzwonar, and Samm Deighan, takes a deep dive into a different cult cinema selection each episode, starting with Fulci’s THE GATES OF HELL. Note of warning: the films they cover tend to be pretty gooey, gross, violent, or otherwise transgressive. If that’s your thing, or you want it to be your thing, it’d definitely worth a listen. And it’s on one of the greatest podcast networks of all time, that’s right, Cinepunx.com.

This was a super busy week for me, so I don’t have more for you, but RRR is two movies’ worth of entertainment packed into one, and Twitch of the Death Nerve has a current episode count in the high 20’s, so between these two items there’s over 24 hours of content. We’ll call it done.
