I produced and cohosted a podcast for several years called PTR (which stood for both “Poststructuralist Tent Revival” and “Philosophy Theology and Religion,” you can guess the SEO on the Tent Revival title was… subpar). I don’t have an interest in continuing to do a theology and/or philosophy podcast at the moment, but I’m getting the itch to podcast again, and I’m considering continuing the old feed, but as a film theory podcast.
Podcasts aren’t easy though, especially when you’re the sole producer. It takes between 2-3 hours of editing for every 1 hour of content produced. Some solutions: outsource editing ($$$) or, shorter or less frequent episodes. I don’t want to give up final editing or deal with the expense of an editor, and I don’t want to constrict the show to a 30-minute slot, since you don’t really get to enjoy the spontaneous conversation that makes podcasts interesting with such a short format. I also think that less than biweekly releases tend to prevent a show from picking up organic momentum.
So, what to do? Probably sleep on it for a week or four and see if the project insists on getting itself done. If it does, then I will find a way to oblige.
